Question by thex: Supplements for cancer in dogs?
My 12 year old, 56 pound mixed breed dog has cancer. She just had surgery in April to remove her spleen and a tumor off of her liver. There is still a large tumor connecting a lot of her organs that cannot be removed.
Since the surgery, she has been doing great. A lot more energy and more lively. I currently give her Dandelion root and and also glucosamine for her arthritis.
Any suggestions on anything else I can give her or do for her to keep her tumors/cancer at bay and for her to live a longer life?
Thanks.

There is a lot of research into this.

Question by nikki: My dog has a lump on his paw and I’m concerned if it may be a tumor?
My 8 year old golden retriever has a lump on the upper part of his paw which has been there at least 9 months. The vet said to just keep an eye on it. He licks it a lot but it has never turned into a sore and only grown slightly to about the size of a dime. Do I need to worry that it may be a mast cell tumor? He has a couple other similar size lumps in his chest area that the vet feels are just fatty deposits. But, I’m still worried.

GET A SECOND OPINION!!!
The vet told us that they would have to do some tests and didn’t really think it could be tumors, but then we got a second opinion and an x-ray but it was too late…… he really did have tumors all over him. I was so sad when I found out… he was my dog and I loved him and I miss him.

Question by candoil: Natural Dog food suggestion for overweight dog with cancer?
I’m looking for a high quality natural food for my overweight, high cholesterol beagle who just had mass cell cancer tumors removed. I have read it is better to have a no grain diet as grain/sugars feed cancer. However, with his high choloesterol and weight loss that is needed, I’m not sure a high protein diet will be good. Anyone have any suggestions?

I believe Orijen (owned by Champion Pet Foods) now makes a low-protien version of their high-quality, grain free food. You can find out more here: http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/about/

Question by snottyrotty: TVT-Transmissable Venereal Tumor?
anyone ever heard of this? i rescue dogs in rural Mexico. Last two female strays I found had this disease. Contagious canine cancer found in high stray population areas. Transmitted thru mating but was wondering if anyone knows can it be given to another dog just by sniff? or an open bite wound? Characterized by massive bleeding from the vagina, as if in heat; but more pronounced. Blood can be brownish or bright red. Tumors are large and round about 3″ in diameter and just up inside the vaginal wall. Anyone with more information or experience with this, please email me at lynn_r_81233@yahoo.com

A Transmissible Venereal Tumor affects the external genitalia of dogs. This contagious disease spreads through mating, sniffing and licking. Usually not malignant, the viable tumor cells attach to mucus membranes or implant in bite wounds. TVT contains fewer chromosomes than normal cells. This disease occurs more commonly in sub-tropical to tropical urban areas, and affects young dogs and more females. A dog that is immune-suppressed, whether because of its young age or a disease, may have a tumor that spreads as cancer to the lymph nodes.

For those of you new to Sam…he had osteosarcoma(bone cancer) in his femur. For surgery he had rotation plasty…which removed his femur and attached his tibia to the remaining piece of femur in his hip. Look closely you can see his foot in the white sock…it is absolutely amazing!

Question by Oreo Dog’s Mom: Does anyone have experience or info about b-natural products for dogs?
My 9 year old aussie had a mass cell tumor, stage 2 removed from the outside of her leg. The margins appeared to be clear and we are hoping it has not spread and will not come back.

I have decided I am going to try to help her by cooking her food at home and adding vitamins/mineral/supplements using the ‘Canine Cancer Diet’ philosophy.

It seems that I have found a site www.b-naturals.com that carries mixes of supplements that I need. My vet said to make sure the ingredients are bio available… but I can’t tell by the website if they are.

Has anyone used these b-natural products for their pets? Would you recommend them or is there some other brand that you think is better?

Thanks for advice… I will be sure to pick the best answer!

Hey…I am not sure. The website sparks my curiosity. I have used balance-it for my pets and its seems to be really good. My dog loves it, but my 2 cats are picky. My vet was very happy when i told her I am feeding it and she said thats what she gives her pets.

the site is https://secure.balanceit.com/_clients2/index.php?dl=1

Good luck!
