Question by madmatt: On Tuesday my butt muscle (lol) started swelling up…?
…after I went for a run. I thought it was a pulled muscle but I went to my dr this afternoon and he seemed a bit concerned, basically said he didn’t think it was a pulled muscle… because of the size it could be a hematoma or or some kind of infection that might need cleaning out. He is referring me to a surgical oncologist. Is that normal? I have a history of cancer (osteosarcoma) but I wouldn’t have thought this was related? Should I get another opinion? Couldn’t this just be a pulled muscle?

Confused.

I have the same problem….and need surgery as well. Although mine is a bit different than yours…I hope it is not related to your cancer…good luck with the doctor.

Declining rapidly going for the last part of the series which didn’t work at all just made him deathly sick. I begged his Vet to help us and he put an SOS out on the Vet only website and came up with another treatment to begin 1/17/11. the decline was so rapid this was taken New Year’s Eve, Rocky’s birthday and already only a week it wasn’t working and we knew it.

It’s from doggie original sin.

Couldn’t help the sarcastic answer. Can never tell how serious these questions are, sometimes.

The truth is, cancer is naturally produced, it is a fact of life. Some people and animals have bodies that produce so much that they die. Your loss is unfortunate, and I sympathize, but such is life, and death.

Question by Tootsie05: Gaining weight………..?
I am so tired of everything being about losing weight! Every other commerical/ad is about dieting and how to lose weight, but everyone forgets about people like me who are underweight and need to gain weight to be healthy! Anyways, I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last year (August through December) and I lost like 6 pounds from chemo even though I was already really underweight. I’m about 5′2 and I’m 15 and before chemo I was about 85 pounds but afterwards I was down to 79. I’m not sure exactly how much I am now, but I’m probably about 79 or 80 still. My mom was built the same was that I am when she was a kid. She was short-ish and very skinny no matter what she ate. I’m the same way. I could eat 100 pieces of chocolate right now and not gain a pound. I know that’s desirable for most people, but not for me since I need to gain weight so badly. My goal is to be 100 pounds by the end of this year. I don’t how how realistic that is, but hopefully I can do it. So my question is what are some techniques I can use to gain weight? I stay up really late almost every night (3am usually) and almost every night I have a midnight snack. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I’m alwayss hungry, even like 10 minutes after I eat a big meal. I usually skip breakfast (I know that’s not good but I’m working on it) and have a sandwich or something for lunch. Then my mom always makes a healthy dinner like pasta and salad or whatever. I try to eat a lot of nuts and peanut butter since I know they’re high calorie. I don’t want to eat a lot of junk food because that is unhealthy and will give me lots of pimples. What foods can I eat to gain weight? It’s 3am right now and I just had 1/2 a sandwich with peanut butter, bananas, and honey, a hot dog with ketchup (and bun), and a glass of milk. I used to do gymnastics but I haven’t been doing any exercise lately because of my cancer. But since I’m cured now, I’m going to be starting again in a few months probably. Are there any certain times of day/night that I should be eating to gain more weight? Any info. is appreciated. Sorry this is so long but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Oh yeah and I also drink Ensures and eat power bars daily as snacks. Thanks!

I googled for calorie dense foods and here is a seemingly reputable site:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/28482-list-calorie-dense-foods/

I suggest finding one of your fatter friends and do what they do. Eat what they eat. I’m over-weight as well. One thing that made me dramatically gain weight is ice cream. My favorite ice cream was mocha-almond-fudge. My favorite thing at McD is the quarter pounder… you get the idea. You could also drink straight soda.

Instead of water, drink juices of any kinds would probably more healthful and calorie rich.

in this Animal Allies, we travel to South Africa where our Animal Doctors are making a house call on Tonto. The much-loved mare’s been suffering from a mystery eye infection that just won’t clear up. And as they investigate, there’s real concern Tonto might lose the eye. In New York, we meet an Animal Helper who’s dedicated his life to saving the homeless…. homeless reptiles that is. Out the front of his cramped shop, Robert Shapiro sells T-shirts. But out the back, he cares for up to 500 lost lizards…. from iguanas to alligators. Everyone knows a dog is man’s best friend…. but what does it take to make us a puppy’s best pal? We’ll have the answers in this week’s Animal Allies “How To” segment. And in the UK, we’ll learn why this unusual animal is fast becoming a surprise hit in the English countryside. It’s the Alpaca… and customers are paying a fortune for its fabulous fleece.

Question by -x-Jazzy-x-: CHILDHOOD CANCER!!! PLEASE HELP!?
Hey guys! If you can take the time to read this, it’s a cause very dear to me~

Last year around this time I was 14 going through chemo for Burkitt’s Lymphoma at Miller’s Children’s hospital at Long Beach Memorial. I had been in quarantine for almost three weeks at that time, I was so depressed that I wasn’t going to be at school with my friends for valentines. i was the oldest in the ward, most kids were just toddlers.

I remember that on Valentine’s day – the nurses in the pediatric oncology/hematology ward gave us all homemade valentines! We also got a visit from a therapy dog and some college fraternity sent us valentines as well!

To this day I still have all those valentines and I remember how happy I was to get them! <3

With Valentine's Day tomorrow, I'm just asking that you guys consider taking just a minute to sign a few valentines and send them or drop them off at your local pediatric hospital. I can speak from experience, it truly does mean a lot to those kids! We feel so far away from the outside world when we're stuck there and it would be nice to know we aren't forgotten!

Just one thing though - I know that in our ward, we weren't allowed stuffed animals because they harbored bacteria. Also many kids cannot eat candy or certain foods and I think it would be unfair to exclude them.
~A gift that I'm recommending you slip into the cards are stickers. Simple and fun for everyone!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING! I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU'LL CONSIDER THIS, IT WOULD ONLY TAKE A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME BUT IT WOULD MAKE SOME KIDS VERY HAPPY!

Question by Atlas: How dangerous to your health is mildew in your room, and how do I get rid of it?
My dog knocked over a tall glass of water that I was dipping my paint brushes into, and most of it spilled under the sofa in my room. The same thing has happened before, and I was able to slide under and dab up most of the water, but there was a ton of water this time, and it went all the way back. It just smells horrendous, and I keep spraying Oust but it’s not helping. I had a fan on it to try to dry it up, but it really penetrated into the rug.

I can’t lift up the sofa to get the rug on my own. What else can I do to get rid of this smell? It’s giving me a terrible headache. Is mildew dangerous to your health? I’ve got Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, though I’m almost done with active treatment. 17, and healthy otherwise. Could this harm me?

Omgosh, this smell is insane. TIPS PLEASE!

mold is really bad for your health. if it gets really bad it can omit stuff into the air and if you breathe in the spores you can probably get pneumonia or some lung disease. if you have carpet, i would try and steam clean the carpet and get all the moisture out of the carpet so it doesnt go any deeper. get someone to help you move the couch also.
