I’m documenting these experience, partially at least, to be of service to others who may (unfortunately) go through this in the future. Knowing what to expect helped me. Also, having wonderful, supportive friends helps a lot!!

Question by Eddie: My dog has breast cancer and a tumor, is it worth getting the surgery?
She’s 9 years old and it’ll cost $ 350-450 to get it taken care of. Even if she gets the surgery the cancer may or may not come back. She’s a dachshund and dachshunds generally live anywhere between 12-15 years. Do you think its worth getting the surgery? If so why?
Thanks, Eddie

Answer by Zoe IF you really love your dog, I would get the surgery.
Question by I: I am getting palliative care. Is getting a massage okay?
It was actually my care team that recommended it to help with muscle pain, cramps, anxiety etc. I just worry that it might do any damage or cause anything to progress faster than it otherwise would. I have metastatic osteosarcoma and have recently been treated for ascites, but none of my tumours are on the surface or anything.

Question by ambervw2001: My dog has cancer and its getting worse?
She has been living with it for about 6 months now and even though I am treating it with some medication, I decided not to go with Chemotherapy. She is an older dog as it is and the stage of the cancer was pretty advanced when initially diagnosed. She is starting to get to the point where she sleeps all day and only gets up to go outside or to eat. Her lymph nodes in her throat area are literally the size of tennis balls. This makes her snort and cough alot. She has not had a BM in 2 days. I just keep wondering if she is in pain. She does seem to have good days and bad days and is overall still happy..I think..The vet said that there is not much pain involved in this type of cancer, but I cant help but wonder. Everyone keeps telling me that when it’s time to put her to sleep, I will know, but I just can’t bear the thought of it. I guess my question is when is the right time to put her down? Should I do it now, before she gets worse or wait it out?

Question by Autumn: Is there anything I can do now to prevent my dog from getting cancer?
I have a Boxer pup (they are a cancer prone breed). I feed her decent dog food, let her get enough exercise, and take her to the vet regularly. Is there something/things I can do now to prevent her from getting cancer in the future?

Answer by Brittney http://www.allboxerinfo.com/Cancer.html
I think you will find that info helpful…. this is where the following came from:::::
Causes:
•This can be genetic (passed on through genes and the Boxer breed is genetically prone to brain tumors)
•Environmental (outside elements such as 2nd hand smoke)
•Random mutation of the cells may occur with no known explanation
•Injuries as a puppy can lead to bone cancer as an adult dog – Many bone cancer cases occur at the stop where a dog injured or broke a bone as a puppy
•Nasal cancer runs much higher in dogs than in humans – it is theorized that this is because dogs frequently sniff the ground – which can contain chemicals that are then transported to the dog’s sinus cavities.
Prevention:
•Keep your Boxer away from 2nd hand smoke – this plays a very big role. Any smokers in the home should do so outside or at the very least in a sectioned off room such as a garage or sun porch
•For white Boxer dogs or Boxer dogs with white patches, the dog should not be outside in the sun for too long. For any colored Boxer dog, areas such as the nose and tummy should be protected by sunscreen if the dog is to be outside in the sun for longer than 20 minutes.
•Spaying or neutering your Boxer dog can help. Spaying a female Boxer dog greatly reduces the chances of mammary or ovarian cancer and the sooner you have this done, the better. Dogs that are spayed before their first heat cycle have their risk reduced in 1/2. Spaying after the 5th heat cycle may be too late to make a difference.
•Always keep an eye on an energetic puppy to reduce the chances of the dog becoming injured or breaking a limb. Little puppies are famous for “being under your feet” – so many owners trip over or step on their dogs by accident – beware of this.
