Question by charwants2know: can dogs really detect cancer in humans?
by scent i guess

Best answer:

Answer by alphanum3ric
There have been studies of using dogs to identify patients that have colon cancer. Dogs have been able to detect cancer in patients even before medical tests show the presence of cancerous cells.
One test was done where dogs were sent along a line of samples, some of which had cancer, and others didn’t. The dogs identified one of the samples that was supposed to be non-cancer bearing as having cancer. They later tested that patient and found that they did indeed have cancer.

Question by NearlyDecember: Can dogs really make humans ill?
I’ve seen plenty of “theories” but no proofs, like dogs cause breast cancers or dogs have bacterias that causes lung disease in humans.

But where are the facts? I know SICK dogs can most likely cause humans to get sick, but what about *healthy* dogs?

Most of what you have heard is total rubbish. Dogs and humans are totally different species so diseases are not communicable . The only real problems relate to hygiene. Dog faeces carry bacteria that can make humans ill that’s about all

Question by Jake: If a dog is diagnosed with cancer, do they get chemotherapy like humans do?
This might be a stupid question, but is it possible for the dog owner to pay for chemotherapy for the dog?

Best answer:

Answer by New England Babe
Yes, dogs can have chemotherapy.

My hubby is a cancer survivor and he would never put a dog or any other animal through that. He was able to understand that the treatments that almost killed him 4 separate times were designed to save his life. His life will hopefully be another 40 healthy years. He feels that chemotherapy for a dog is cruel and unkind and made it very clear he would not allow any animal of his to go through that.

Only having been through it can you make that kind of a decision.

Question by Phfff: Can skin cancer in dogs affect humans?
Every year my family and I have a huge dinner at their friends’, but recently their dog developed skin cancer. They still allow her to run around and lick everyone though. I’m just wondering, should I be worried at all? Should we go have dinner with them anyway, or kindly think of an excuse?
Thanks for the clarification without being TOO sarcastic. -eyeroll- No, I’m not crazy and I didn’t think it was contagious either. My mom was just being paranoid about it.
Kelsandane: No, I am not “worried about the puke factor with a poor sick ugly creature running around.” Fyi, I love animals and frankly, I don’t like your “Your such a f***ing ignorant idiot” tone of voice.

Question by Cruelbachelor: Are humans vegetarians or omnivores?
Dr. Richard Leakey, a renowned anthropologist, summarizes, “You can’t tear flesh by hand, you can’t tear hide by hand. Our anterior teeth are not suited for tearing flesh or hide. We don’t have large canine teeth, and we wouldn’t have been able to deal with food sources that require those large canines.”

The long human intestinal tract actually makes it dangerous for people to eat meat. The bacteria in meat have extra time to multiply during the long trip through the digestive system, and meat actually begins to rot while it makes its way through the intestines. Many studies have also shown that meat can cause colon cancer in humans.
But I still wonder why human posses long canines, and our closest primates like chimps eat meat.
Dear majnun99, human are capable to be cannibals, that does not mean we should. Most natural omnivores prefer immediate prey and flesh meat, unlike human go for carcasses those expired. We are omnivorous neither.
Not only true carnivores eat their meat raw, but true omnivores do as well. Even famous sushi suggested to eat with condiments and preservation!
Dear Be me’s Valentine, all those animals you mentioned are capable to tear flesh, swallow the whole, smash the shell, or inject poison before eating. But adult man or infant posses neither one. Cooking is not natural for human omnivore anyway. Plucking fruits is more likely.
Ask a stupid cow and chicken- will tell you how they manufacture their proteins, minerals and B12. Human body is naturally capable to produce B12 under “ideal” body condition.
Hi Republicansareweakling…how is your Artesia, California in Los Angeles County? Indeed your “research” is superb!
Hi King, good input!
Hi Earth, and good position to answer.
Hello, About a Girl… Peace & love to all!. Yes, suckling animal’s breast milk is unnatural-ethically and biologically. And we only could chew dead flesh after well cooked and served while hot. Thanks
Hi Iolanda, good validation on tooth structure. The guerrillas may validate further your argument. Hence, pls consider the other factors…read “Republicansareweakling” indeed scientifically revealing! Our meat-politicians, ancestors and religious stigma had concealed much truth from the school text. Hence human science is not always perfect!
Hi, Mike D, you ever answered that “you will kill and eat those adorable cats and dog if the survival of me and my children depended on it. Fine. It is not very wrong to offer your own flesh, or “sacrifice your own son for the sake of the world”. But no one has the “right” to take away others life.

You also said “A human can survive and thrive on a diet that is 100% meat based” Yes of course, We can digest cardboard. That does not mean we should. The few populations of hunter-gatherers surviving into the 21st Century are confined to the most remote regions of our planet &endash;- like the Arctic and the jungles of South America and Africa &endash;- some of the most challenging places to manage to survive. Their life expectancy is also limited to 25 to 30 years and infant mortality is 40% to 50%. Hunter-gatherer societies fortunately did survive, but considering their arduous struggle and short lifespan, I would not rank them among successful societies.”

Regardless of what Dr. Leakey states humans are omnivores – most of our primate relatives – Chimp, Apes, Gorillas et al are also omnivores.

Question by Michelle C: Do Dogs Cause Cancer in Humans?
My friends feels that the two dogs she has in her house (up to date on all shots) will cause her to get more sick and wants to put them out when she is getting Chemotherapy. I would like REAL EVIDENCE EITHER WAY… (besides breast cancer) that dogs cause cancer! THanks

Best answer:

Answer by luvlay_girl91
No, dogs do not cause cancer. That is ridiculous. I can however agree that it may negatively effect her health while receiving chemo. When chemotherapy is being administered, it dulls down the body’s defenses. If she is allergic to dogs, or the dog’s health is not stable, this could pose as a problem. During her chemo, she will need a clean environment because any health setback may prevent her from being able to receive treatments, and that is never good. Dogs however do not cause cancer. That is a ridiculous reason to put them out. However, it is also possible that she becomes unable to care for them, so it may be imperative they find another home. But if they are clean, healthy, and not handfuls of stress (you don’t want your friend under any stress while she’s trying to fight her battle) they should be just fine where they are at. Hope this helps.

Question by anonymous: Do the early stages of skin cancer in Dogs look the same as humans?
I keep trying to find images on google for the early stages of canine skin cancer and have no luck. I see pictures of the early stages of skin cancer in humans, and I was wondering if they look the same in canines? Im very worried about my dog…she has one crusty lump thats very small (about half the size of an eraser) and it’s been there ever since I adopted her, and a dark colored spot on her skin of her elbow that seems to have gotten larger. Can someone please let me know? Or can I connect with someone thats knows so I can send pictures? Im broke right now and won’t be able to go to the vet for two weeks. Please help…no sarcasm either.

Best answer:

Answer by ♥Bailey♥
No sarcasm. But seriously, nobody can diagnose cancer over the internet. Nobody can diagnose cancer over the phone. Not even a vet. That’s something they need to see and get biopsies from and do tests on. At least go to the vet just to get whatever it is looked at just to get your questions answered and maybe set your mind at ease.. Maybe it’ll be something simple. But at least the vet can point you in the right direction. They are the only one who can help you with this question. Good luck.

Also, there is a fund called the Magic Bullet Fund to help people who have dogs with cancer that may help you IF this does end up being cancer. It’s just something to look into IF it does get to that point. There are a few different links on there for help if you do end up needing it, which hopefully you won’t. This is the link to their site http://www.themagicbulletfund.org/index.html

Question by Coco: Is Dog Cancer Contagious To Humans?
My dog has bone cancer and prostate cancer…. after treatment and removing his leg, the cancer has moved to his lungs now and now it has come to the point that he has to be put down, my question is… I’m a reasonable person but I had a dream the other night that the cancer was passed through his licking to me and my one year old… which he does lick us both on the face a lot and occasionally on/in the mouth even though I try to prevent it. Is it possible that cancer is contagious to us from his licking us?

Best answer:

Answer by Kitty
cancer is not a virus. that would be like a human giving another human cancer

It’s a rare form of bone cancer in humans, but in dogs, osteosarcoma affects about 1 dog every hour of every day. Right now, there aren’t many options for those dogs. But a new study might change that. It’s a medical study that’s intended to help kids in the long run, but it just might save the life of a pet along the way.
