Before taking to the vet. Last day! Diagnosed with mammarian cancer/tumor in her abdomen.

Life can be rough. Especially to a young teenage dog named Lilly. Lilly gets bullied by her piers at her high school because they think she’s a ‘nerd’. Lilly sadly gets sick (from what?) and later finds out she has lung cancer, which can be deadly. This is the story about her life in her friend’s eyes: Cloe. Life doesn’t last forever, enjoy it while you can… Music by Kevin MacLeod Music Titles: Nervous Piano, Pinball Spring, Faceoff, Fairytale Waltz, Cute and Dry Music by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) is licensed under Creative Commons “Attribution 3.0″

My dog RAUL gets his day in the dirt. Me and my brother Jim put him in the ground next to Jims old dog BO. They are buried in the old pecan orchard. Best buds. A few seconds before RAUL left his body I reached down and whispered in his ear, “you go get them fuckin’ sheep Raul” and he looked me in the eyes, licked me across my mouth then wagged his tail twice. I can’t wait to see him in my next life.

Question by ANDREW S: Putting My dog to sleep when?
Max our golden retriever is 11 years old. For a few months he has been panting.he had his annual vets examination and was said to be pretty fit for his age. He always been full of beans and a great friend, Two weeks ago we were out walking and I sensed he was struggling. I made him stop and he collapsed in front of me. I sat with him in the woods and eventually picked him up and carried him some way home. he weighed 44kg hes a big dog.
We took him to the vets and he had an xray. he has always been stressed going to the vets. They rang me later that day to tell me he has several massess in his chest cavity and his lungs looked in bad shape. They told me he was not very well after the anasthetic. and they were worried about him. they gave him a durectic to remove the fluid off his chest. we went to see him that night and he did look ill. He has struggled with a weak back end for a few years, but he could not stand up and was on oxygen. they kept him in that night I got a call the next day to say he was a bit better. The vet told us that they thought he had no more than a month left she gave us some tablets to help his breathing and an antibiotic to stave off infections he has been on these since… We brought him home and for the first day he was really ill. the second day he was more or less abck to his usual self. playfull and eating like a horse. His breathing is not so good but his gums were nice and pink. he has to breathe fast in order to get the air he needs. but he seemed to be coping. On thursday 11th November he was eating as usual if not being a bit picky as we were spoiling him rotten giving him whatever he wanted. Friday night was another matter. he was up pacing and wanting to go out all the time. we have been sleeping downstairs with him to be on hand. he did not settle. we brought the vet out to him on saturday morning. we were concerned the cancers were blocking his bladder and he could not have a wee.
When the vets came he was a bouncy as ever.. bringing them toys and quite bright. She explained he had a lot of fluid on his chest and around the tumours. she gave him another durectic and she chased him round the garden to make sure he was actually having a wee which he was. That night he would not eat. but when we had a couple of friends round that same nigh he had lots of treats. You could tell he was not right and his backend kept slumping down. but he was bright enough. He looked a bit tired after the fussing so we made him laydown. He had another dose of the durectic and we had another sleepless night and he wanted to go out every hour for a wee. His back end is really weak and hes having trouble keeping himself in position white weeing or trying to poo. This morning he showed no real interest in anything. He has got to be starving. he is drinking but we can only get bits ot treats in him. It took us a while to get his tablets down, For most of today he has lain there sleeping. hes not wagging his tail and he looks sad. each time he has gone out you can see he is struggling to hold himself up when weeing. Its distressing for him and us. Tonight he would not eat. we got little bits in him but nothing more. He will still have a little milky bone but thats it. he normally goes with me for his walk.. a much shorter walk that is as he like to do his poo in the woods. He could not go during the day today as he was sleeping and showed no interest. He asked to go out at about 5 oclock. he was slowly pacing round the garden but could not settle on a spot. I asked him if he wanted to go just into the woods.. he did and followed me down. he eventually did a poo but it was dioreaha.. He was groaning in pain as he tried to squat.. it was awful to see him.. he got up and then his back end collapsed again and he just lay there gasping. I got him up and we managed the 15 yards back to the house.. his back end went again on the drive and his breathing was awful.. he then threw up.. he looked awful. we cleaned him up and he had a drink hes now in the lounge asleep he looks peaceful.. I know his prognosis is not good so I rang the vet. She was not much use. I have this horrible desision to make and I need some help and reassureance. I am prepared for his dying. I even have his coffin ready and have spent today digging a large hole in the garden on the spot he likes to site. I know its going to happen I just cannot say those final words.. ‘it’s time to say goodbye..’ each time i do the tears well up and I am a wreck.
Help..

DONT DO IT!

I know you want to put him out of his misery, but if he IS in such bad shape, let him spend his last days in peace and happiness with you, don’t get him killed. I am against it.

Question by TG: 2nd question re: putting dog on prednisone: Any experiences or stories of prednisone for treating lymphoma?
My dog, Bo, is around 11 years old (adopted, 3.5 years ago), a st. bernard/husky mix, about 100 lb.
He was recently diagnosed w/ lymphoma, probably stage 3. Comprehensive chemotherapy really isn’t much of an option for us. So, prednisone alone was an option, and prednisone along w/ another med (a type of chemo) was an option as well, but obviously considerably more expensive, and I am moving in a couple of weeks, so somewhat unmanageable (that’s not to say that I won’t do it…just considering options).
Bo isn’t showing any signs or symptoms, aside from the swollen lymph nodes.
I’m basically looking for any and all suggestions short of chemo that maybe the vet left out.
I’m also looking for any stories, good or bad, that people have that will help me be aware and help increase his time and improve the quality of his last days, whether it’s a month or 2 years.
That is all, thanks for the replies.

Question by Ladyg: My dog was diagnosed with Lymphoma on Monday, should I be thinking about putting him to sleep?
Simba has a lump in his throat and one on each of his hine legs. He is going blind, he can’t swallow his food very well, and he drinks alot of water. Most of the water goes back into the bowl with his saliva. He still wags his tail, barks when he heas noises and gives us his paw and even tries to roll over so that we can rub his tummy. It is very hard for me to think it is his time to leave me. I want to do the right thing for him but I don’t want to lose him. He is 10 years old. Please help me find the strength to help Simba! The VET said he is not in pain but is suffering. I cry everyday over this.

i’m so sorry.
i’m not sure exactly what this disease is…but i think if you ask yourself one question then it will help you make your decision.
is your dog enjoying life?
does he still get up to greet the day, even thought it might be filled with some pain?
i think you’ll be able to tell if he’s not loving life anymore…he’ll just be really submissive and won’t want to do anything.

but i think you’ll know when it’s time to let him go.

to me, it doesn’t sound like it’s his time yet, but only you’ll really be able to judge that.

in the meantime though,
give it the best last years of his life! its the least you can do!(:

What do you think? Answer below!

I have a 9 year old lab that has bone cancer & we’ve decided its his time. This is a hard decision & I don’t want to be jumping the gun. He’s on tramadol & 9 rimaðyl a dayor as needed. He can only use 3 legs his back leg is about 3x normal size. He whimpers occasionally but overall gets around ok. Should I go in with him friday or wait outside in lobby. I’m torn btw the two, also in the short future I will b putting down a 14 year old yorkie & 14 year lab

I have had my boxer since I was 7, and now I am 16. We just recently found out that he has severe bone cancer and there is nothing we can do to help it, except amputate the leg (which is very painful and we don’t want to do that to him) It happened so quickly, less than two months ago he was perfectly fine. We are taking a with him before we had to put him down. I feel like I took my time with him for granted and I don’t know how to make up for it in 4 days. I am really going to miss this dog, he is my first dog and I got him at a young age. This is very hard for me to deal with. Did anyone else ever have an experience like this before?

Also, I don’t really know about this, but is it OK for me to think about getting another dog once he is gone? Not right away, maybe a month or two. This is definitely not replacing him, I could never do that to him, but I am a dog person so having a dog makes things better. Is this wrong to get another dog?

Thanks.

My dog has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, its bone cancer for those who don’t know. Her right front leg is the affected bon, and its a painful disease that has her limping at this point. She was diagnosed back in Feb, and was limping then, but it got better or atleast it seemed it got better. Since there is not much we could do about it then, we basically have been trying to give her the best life a dog could ask for. Now she’s in the final stages and her limping is a lot worse, the vet says we need to start thinking about putting her down soon. Her spirits have not changed nor has her appetite, its just that leg. Im scared of putting her down for many reasons including the fact that I don’t want to let her go, but also that im not sure how God would see that. I wish it wouldn’t have to killing her, but I don’t want her to suffer to the end either. Im torn. What do you all think, would it look bad in the eyes of God?
Thank you all for your answers. I know it will be hard, but its probably harder now seeing her suffer.
