Question by Mike: Do golfers get cancer more than non-golfers?
I knew an avid golfer and a dog that spent a lot of time on a golf course that both died from lymphoma. Now I see two pro golfers in the news with breast cancer. I am wondering if pesticides or other chemicals used on golf courses are causing this. Is there a high incidence of lymphoma or other cancers in pro golfers?
Golf course superintendents who work in an occupation not usually associated with hazardous conditions are linked to higher rates of mortality from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, brain and prostate cancer in a recently published study (Kross, et al., “Proportionate mortality study of golf course superintendents,” AJIM, 29:501-506,1996).

[Note: Of chemical pesticides used on golf courses, RCC found 46% were either suspect, possible or probable carcinogens. For fungicides alone the carcinogenic rate was 58%. This analysis was based on data from an EPA chart from July of 1996, and pesticide information in the Basic Guide to Pesticides.]

Just a few cases from the thousands on the web:

My Twitter www.twitter.com I didn’t upload this in HD cause I wanted to get it up before 2 in the morning.

Here is the video that I was going to post up a long time ago! My apologies to everyone who was so patient wondering how Fry did. But here’s the footage after his amputation where he took his trip to the vets office and his first time able to play with the other doggies.

Question by Seemingly Impressive: I am 14 with what i e-mail this breeder would she consider me more than others + i tylked to her on the phone.
I am 14 and I have contacted a breeder who is interested in learning more about us as we are of her. I gave her this e-mail (note-this is only a part of the e-mail, the other stuff is personal) Do you think she’ll be more then happy to look further with me as in might cosider me a great owner for one of her dogs? Will she consider me more then others now, (she has offered for my family and I to come and visit her at her facility).

Hello Sue,

I spoke with you on the OFA testing concerning eye, elbow and hip dysplasia and heart. I also know this breed is prone to cancers, most common being Hemangiosarcoma, followed by Lymphosarcome, mast cell tumors and Osteosarcome. ( I’d like to know if there has been any of these defects in your dog’s backgrounds?) They are also prone to skin diseases such as Haemophilia, Autoimmune Hemolytic anemia, bloat, Diabetes (occasionally), ear infections, Epilepsy, Hypothyroidism, Laryngeal Paralysis, Liver shunt, Magaesophagus, Myasthenia Gravis, and Von Willebrand disease. Were any of these defects present in your dog’s ancestors or background? I am just making sure though your dog’s pedigrees seemed very clean.
I’d also love to know if Robbin’s pregnancy is confirmed is there a deposit we would have to put down if we go that far in with your dog’s? Will your pups be Neutered or Spayed or will the purchaser decide this? Will your pups have their Dew claws removed and be vet checked twice? And I’d lastly kindly like to know all the guarantees that come with your puppies?

Thank You for your time,
Kassondre
My dad and I are doing this together, this is the frist e-mail i have sent her alone and not with or aside my dad. She has asked me many questions and yes she has a facility but her pups stay inside with her, as do her dogs. But she has a boarding facility/building where she takes in other’s dogs and trains them in obedience show and hunter. She has gave me many websites of where I can finde both her dogs pedigrees and their partents pedigrees and so on. I can also meet the parents at her home. She has only one litter a year and has many pictures of herself and her dogs doing agility and show, and hunter on her website. + she has testimonials off other families that have her pups. I am assured she is an Ok standard and responsible breeder.

I think it sounds like you have been doing your research.

Also do not be afraid to ask to see a copy of the guarentee and contract. You may want to decide if you are considering a show potential or pet. If you are seeking a pet dog, the breeder may sell on a s/n contract, if the pup is not already altered.

A good breeder would be glad to see someone who is doing their research and asking questions. If this breeder seems unwilling or unable to answer your questions, or seems turned off by them, then seek another breeder.

Also be aware that many breeders have waiting lists for puppies. “Robbin’s” pups may already be called for. If she does not have any pups available, she should be willing to put you on a waiting list, or refer you to another good breeder.

HER WEBSITE IS; go to Google, and type in, most valuable pet, then go 4 or 5 listed sites down and there should be a site that says this, MPV most valuable pet-golden retrievers, click on that, this should help. Then please e-mail me or tell me what you think.

Today I went to visit my local SPCA, because they were completely full. I’ve been looking at Papillons, and they are my favorite breed, but I came home with…

A blind, 14 year old mutt.

His name was Oreo, but we have decided we are going to change that, because in all honesty we think he may be deaf too. He doesn’t respond to any noise whatsoever anyhow.

His owner developed bone cancer, and he was shipped up to Pennsylvania to sit in the shelter. For such an old dog, he loves to play!

When my mother saw him, she said, “He’s going to be a lot of work, and maybe even a mistake.” I asked her why she’d say a mistake, and said he’d require a lot of work. That much is true, and that is why I got him. 14 years is pretty darn old, and if I can make the rest of his life the best – then so be it.

So what do you think? Better than adopting a purebred Papillon from a rescue?

We aren’t sure yet what to call him, because I want a bit of everyone in my familys’ opinion. So far, my Mother has declared his middle name is Muttley.

I was thinking of Einstein actually, because if you’d see his hair on his head.. it is totally wild. And he’s a smart little boy, even if he’s blind. But for right now we’re still calling him Oreo.

well, we lost our beloved golden retriever to bone marrow cancer about a month ago. we know its too soon to be looking for a new dog, but me and my dad miss having a dog to sit around with and play with. we would never “replace” him, but we are looking at dogs, but not to buy at this moment. my dad likes pure bred dogs, preferably the vizsla. i absolutely love vizlas, but he says they are too expensive to buy. and usually, the younger they are, the most expensive they are. yet, he wants a puppy. hes really confusing. but for quite a number of years, ive wanted to adopt/rescue a dog. it makes me incredibly sad to see dogs that have been through so much, and need a loving home, yet they get euthanized because of space shortages in shelters. i would do anything to be able to help out a dog in need. and most adoption fees are $50 to $100 where i live. and i found a dog with an amazing story, but my dad doesnt like the fact that he is mixed between a vizsla and a labrador. the dog was beaten and abandoned at just 4 months of age, and he weighs just 25 lbs. my sister on the other hand doesnt want to adopt either because the dog cowers due to being beaten and id hate to see a sweet, innocent dog like him get euthanized. even if i just adopt one dog, its making a difference.. what can i do to show them that rescuing a dog is so much better?
sorry, ive failed to mention that the vizsla dog im looking in to, is a sort of rare breed where i live. ive looked everywhere for a pure bred vizsla puppy, and i cant seem to find one.
also, i feel that my home is the right home too. whatever we get, everyone will be happy with or we wouldnt havent got the dog at all. we treat animals like people in my home. with love and respect. animals deserve a second chance at life too, after all, many people have gotten second chances, so do animals..
