This is a timelapse of my sisters dog Lucke (pronounced lucky). It goes from 9:00 am to 7:00pm. She came home at 5:30, otherwise he would probably still be sleeping, the lazy lug. Since this video was made, Lucke passed away due to cancer, but for those who think he had a boring life, he got walked twice a day, every day. He had a doggy door that he could use whenever he wanted to go out into a big backyard. When people were home, he got more luvin’ then any dog I know. The point of the video wasn’t to see how he lived his everyday life. The point was to see what he would do when left to his own devices.

Question by : How do I tell my fiance that it’s time to put his dog down?
So, my fiance has a huge husky mix that isn’t doing so well. she is 12 years old and she can not walk. We have taken her to the vet and $ 708 later we found out she has some sort of cancer SOMEWHERE, arthritis, and her cartilage between her vertibrae above her legs is practically gone, so the bone is poking her spinal cord. To go forward with surgery would be between 5 and 8 THOUSAND dollars. Or we could put her on medication and get her a cart. OR we could put her down. So we tried the medication. Now, she pees all over herself a few times a day and just puked up blood. (My fiance said “She must have gotten in the garbage… Thats not blood.” But the dog can only pull herself along on carpet and can not move at all on tile and the garbage was on the far side of the kitchen. So, I know he is in some major denial having had this dog since she was eight weeks old.) He wants to build her a cart because we cant afford a real cart. Honestly, I am getting very resentful at him and the dog. I would NEVER let my dog live like this and he thinks its okay. She has no quality of life anymore. He justifies her happiness as “She still wags her tail when I come in the door.” I dont know what else to say to him. What can I say that he will understand; “Holy Crap! Its time for my dog to go to heaven!” I need something to make a lightbulb turn on in his head. Like, I am pretty sure if the human society knew they would throw a fit. Should I call them? I am just at my wits end! Every body knows its time. They tell him. He says no. WTF??!?!?

It’s reasonable to put the dog down but you must take into consideration your fiancé’s feelings. He loves that dog and cares about her a lot. So if he puts her down, he’ll be damaged emotionally for a while. But if it’s absolutely necessary to put her down, talk to him. Since you aren’t in a financial state to care for a crippled dog, it probably is the best thing to do. Tell him this. Tell him to put the dog out of misery

Question by Stephanie B: when is the right time to put my dog to sleep?
i have 2 rotts one is 6 and 7. the 6 yr old was diagnosed w/bone cancer in her rt shoulder almost a month ago. i believe it spread to her lungs. she coughs & hacks all the time now. her behavior has changed so quickley in the last couple of wks. she doesn’t want to walk much anymore more & when she does, she makes a horrible sound like she is coughing up a lung. then she will have to stop for a long time for a break. she is way too heavy for me to carry im not sure what she ways now but she was 85-90lbs a month ago when i found out. i can barely get her to eat. usually just a few bites few times a day. last 2 nights have me seriously thinking of doing it w/the SOB. she is taking meloxicam. then she has good moments when her tail wags cuz she is happy to see me but anythin that gets her excited makes her start coughin. her happy moments make me think i should wait but im worried she is being strong for me & suffering. i THINK naturally it would be 1 wk maybe 2. what do i do??

Question by Colleen: I just want to die. Every time I try to find answers to questions, I get doors shut in my face.?
I have been so sick with my ulcerative colitis and gastroparesis, and I am so tired of dealing with it. There is never enough money to go around. My best friend (my dog Gunner) has osteosarcoma and I did not have enough money to help him out and I had to put hime down Saturday. My heart is so heavy right now, I have nothing more to live for. It truly sucks to be me. I could not even pay for my two children to go to college, they had to take out financial aid loans. I am truly a poor excuse for a mother, etc.

Question by Mark P: My dog is dying of cancer and tomorrow I take her to the vet for the last time.?
Tonight we have decided to take our 13 year old dog to the vet in the morning. She has cancer, we found this out in a routine visit about 3 months ago. Her health has steadily declined since then. The tumor is the size of a softball and has wound itself around other vital parts, so surgery is not an option. We were told we would lose her on the table, so we elected to let her live out her last days with us. She no longer can walk and has stopped eating. I have to hold her up to drink and has lost control of her body functions…so it is time for us to allow her to go. This is the hardest thing I have had to do in a long time… Her name is Cali and she has been a tremendous part of our family… We will miss her, but we know we have to let her go…

We too recently suffered a loss from 2 of our dogs that were suffering from cancer. I sincerely feel for you and it is no easy task but when your family member tells you its time to go, you can’t help but listen. There is no easy way…and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Question by Panda: When is the best time to neuter a dog?
My vet said he would neuter them once they were 6 months old. Now I am being told by other people that it might be harmful for them to get neutered at such a young age (increase chance of bone cancer, hyperthrodism, etc.) and that I should wait until they are a year old. Is it really that bad if I get them neutered now? Are there in disadvantages to waiting?

Best answer:

Answer by Scott
Eight weeks to six months. Vets do not recommend waiting more than six months due to the elevated chances of aggressive behaviors and disease. The benefits in doing it early are reduction of preputial discharge, reduction of hernia occurrence and better prostate health; non-neutered dogs have a much higher risk of prostate problems.

Those people you’ve been talking to shouldn’t own dogs, as they are very misinformed.

Truman is our beautiful 10 year old son, who became an amputee at age 9 and has spent the last year and a half battling Osteosarcoma bone cancer. Today 01/02/11 he goes skiing for the very first time ever at Park City Utah, at the annual MD Anderson Rehabilitative ski trip. He did awesome and skiied all day from 9:30 to 4:00 pm. Awesome time for Truman skiing with other young amputees, cancer warriors, we both LOVED it.
