Question by compcon: Dog/cat lovers…I would appreciate your opinions on what you would do in this situation if…?
…your fuzzy baby was sick.
A couple months ago I fell completely in love with this beautiful lab mix that belonged to a new friend. He was completely unsocialized with people and was afraid of everyone, but he came up to me right away. I started taking him home with me for a few days in a row and when his mom saw how fast we bonded she just gave him to me. She loves him, but she just never bonded with him like she did with her other dogs. He had a problem with one of his shoulders and his owner was told by her vet that it was a cartilage problem that could be fixed with surgery. I took him for his pre-surgery x-rays this week and got slammed with the news that he has a very aggressive bone cancer. He is only three years old, and I am completely stunned and sick over it. The vet said that either his leg will just break, or his body will start to shut down and he will have to be put down either way. The vet said that amputation and radiation may only prolong his life for a short time (more in DB)…

Answer by cat lover Depending on your financial situation, some of the options may already be closed to you.
I would cherish the remaining time with him, regardless of the route forward. And once the quality of his life is no longer there, then you give him that most vital thing we can do, and that is release.
I am giving you a link to a site that many find comforting.

Answer by Stephen Sorry to hear that about your dog, I don’t know from experience but I would think very small amounts could help. I don’t think it will hurt to try anyway, as long as you keep the amounts low.

Question by zippp43: I would like to know if anyone has had a cat with cancer? What was the outcome if you had surgery done?
I have a nine year old female cat that has one large lump with several small lumps around it and this lump is red and she also has another lump that is sort of black in color. I had her to the vet and she is pretty sure that it is cancer. She said that she could do radical surgery on both lumps and she would probably be alright. She also said that it could come back in 6 months to a year. The cost is $ 600.00. We just had another cat put down in April it had liver disease and we spent almost $ 600.00 to make him confortable before we put him down and he was 12 years old. It was really hard on me to put him down so I am beside myself what to do with this other cat. I also have a cat that is 23 years old and he is doing pretty good for as old as he is. I would appreciate knowing if anyone else had a cat with lumps on the belly and you had the surgery what the outcome was. I know a few people that had dogs with cancer and in the end after surgery they still had to be put down.

Question by Jenn: what dog would be good for my grandma who is in the last stages of lung cancer?
My grandma’s dog , a Pekingese, died yesterday. She has lung Cancer and we are wanting to get her a small non hyper dog. What would be the best?
Best answer:
Answer by Memere RN/BA That’s so terrible. She’s suffering herself and now has to deal with the loss of her little best friend. That’s so sad. Are you sure she wants another dog so soon? Have you asked her? I’m only asking because I know when I lost my dog, I didn’t want another dog. I know her time is limited but still, remember, no dog can replace the one she lost. She will want to hang on to those memories of her dog. So unless you’ve asked her how she feels about another dog, I’d say, don’t get one as a surprise. I know you only mean well and I applaud your sensitivity, but wait and ask. One more note, If you’re grandma is dying, you have to consider who will take this dog once she’s gone. You just can’t get her another dog and not consider all aspects of it. God bless, I pray your grandma is comfortable.

Question by B2B 3-20-10: Does any body know what knee cap replacement surgery is and how long some one would need to recoup from it?
I’m a 24 year old female with a history of osteosarcoma (form of bone cancer). My doctor is sending me to a specialist to have knee cap replacement surgery due to the severe arthritis in my knee. My appointment to talk with the doctor isn’t for a few weeks and I have tons of questions. I just want to know if anybody out there knows or even has had knee cap replacement surgery?
Best answer:
Answer by Mintee my mother had both total knee replacements. (we call her bionic women now).. they actually sawed off the whole knee joint and screwed in a new titanic (good metal) knee in place.. weird huh?.. she couldnt walk for a week, then slowly with physical therapy walking with walker for a couple of weeks, then with a cane. I think it took about 3 months to totally get healed.. Its been a year and a half and she feels great now.. (she did one knee and the other later after 9 months) .. goodluck! She does a lot of water aerobics now to keep her legs nimble as she says..

Question by Connor P: Would osteosarcoma of the rib show up on a rib series x-ray?
Long story short, I found a painless lump on one of my ribs about a month ago, it’s hard like bone, and I’ve had 2 x-rays done. The most recent one was a rib series and the doc looked over them with the radiologist and said that they looked completely normal, and to come back in 3 weeks for a follow up. So if osteosarcoma were advanced enough to have a significant lump, would it show up on a rib series x-ray?
Thanks.

Question by Seemingly Impressive: I am 14 with what i e-mail this breeder would she consider me more than others + i tylked to her on the phone.
I am 14 and I have contacted a breeder who is interested in learning more about us as we are of her. I gave her this e-mail (note-this is only a part of the e-mail, the other stuff is personal) Do you think she’ll be more then happy to look further with me as in might cosider me a great owner for one of her dogs? Will she consider me more then others now, (she has offered for my family and I to come and visit her at her facility).
Hello Sue,
I spoke with you on the OFA testing concerning eye, elbow and hip dysplasia and heart. I also know this breed is prone to cancers, most common being Hemangiosarcoma, followed by Lymphosarcome, mast cell tumors and Osteosarcome. ( I’d like to know if there has been any of these defects in your dog’s backgrounds?) They are also prone to skin diseases such as Haemophilia, Autoimmune Hemolytic anemia, bloat, Diabetes (occasionally), ear infections, Epilepsy, Hypothyroidism, Laryngeal Paralysis, Liver shunt, Magaesophagus, Myasthenia Gravis, and Von Willebrand disease. Were any of these defects present in your dog’s ancestors or background? I am just making sure though your dog’s pedigrees seemed very clean.
I’d also love to know if Robbin’s pregnancy is confirmed is there a deposit we would have to put down if we go that far in with your dog’s? Will your pups be Neutered or Spayed or will the purchaser decide this? Will your pups have their Dew claws removed and be vet checked twice? And I’d lastly kindly like to know all the guarantees that come with your puppies?
Thank You for your time,
Kassondre
My dad and I are doing this together, this is the frist e-mail i have sent her alone and not with or aside my dad. She has asked me many questions and yes she has a facility but her pups stay inside with her, as do her dogs. But she has a boarding facility/building where she takes in other’s dogs and trains them in obedience show and hunter. She has gave me many websites of where I can finde both her dogs pedigrees and their partents pedigrees and so on. I can also meet the parents at her home. She has only one litter a year and has many pictures of herself and her dogs doing agility and show, and hunter on her website. + she has testimonials off other families that have her pups. I am assured she is an Ok standard and responsible breeder.

Answer by Nekkid Dog © I think it sounds like you have been doing your research.
Also do not be afraid to ask to see a copy of the guarentee and contract. You may want to decide if you are considering a show potential or pet. If you are seeking a pet dog, the breeder may sell on a s/n contract, if the pup is not already altered.
A good breeder would be glad to see someone who is doing their research and asking questions. If this breeder seems unwilling or unable to answer your questions, or seems turned off by them, then seek another breeder.
Also be aware that many breeders have waiting lists for puppies. “Robbin’s” pups may already be called for. If she does not have any pups available, she should be willing to put you on a waiting list, or refer you to another good breeder.

HER WEBSITE IS; go to Google, and type in, most valuable pet, then go 4 or 5 listed sites down and there should be a site that says this, MPV most valuable pet-golden retrievers, click on that, this should help. Then please e-mail me or tell me what you think.
